This book tells the story of a boy named Michael. He is horribly afraid of mountain lions. When his family goes to Olympic National Park in Washington on vacation, Mom and Dad teach Michael and his sister about the wildlife in the area without ever getting close enough to the animals to get scared. There are also editions available for a number of other National Parks (see the list below), with more coming out soon.

In their "close encounters of the poopy kind," the family learns about a variety of animals, and many other denizens of Olympic National Park, and readers will become familiar with their footprints (tracks) and the droppings they leave behind (scats).
