The original survey of the Wyoming Territory's northern boundary was conducted under contract to the United States General Land Office in 1879 and 1880. This book relates the survey using the original field notes and related contemporary documentation including contract issues. Emphasis is on the observations made and life during the expedition of the Wyoming-Montana border along the 45th Parallel.
The field notes are still today the only mile-by-mile description of the contrasting country along the Montana-Wyoming border. One would be hard-pressed to find a more diverse three hundred mile boundary.
